CROQUEMFISH

ME OH MY

This is my latest pride and joy.

Having grown up in Dubbo (central-west NSW), I did not eat seafood often. There seems to be an unspoken agreement between some people in the country that there is an invisible line between country and coast, which marks where the seafood quality should probably not be trusted past.

My croquemfish artwork is an exhibition of Newcastle’s seafood industry, displaying fish that are eaten as well as used for fishing bait. The croquembouche dessert tower is such a lavish flourish of wealth and fine food in my eyes, and I wanted to use that idea to display the wealth of seafood, and opportunities for the fishing folk, that the Hunter region has to offer.

This piece was a finalist in the Newcastle Club Foundation Art Prize, where I was awarded the Fresh Talent Award.
